The Radiation Source ELBE

At the Forschungszentrum Rossendorf (FZR), a research center in Dresden-Rossendorf, the new facility ELBE for research with various kinds of radiation is presently under construction. ELBE is centered around a superconducting Electron Linac which will produce quasi-continuous (cw) beams of high Brilliance and low Emittance.

The beam energy of ELBE can be varied between 12 and 40 MeV and, as the average beam power is limited to 50 kW, beam intensities of about 1mA can be delivered with a wide variability in the pulse structure.

Electron beams in this energy and intensity range are very attractive means to produce secondary radiation, and at ELBE a number of beam stations will be devoted to various methods of secondary beam production such as:
