Overview

Institut für Radiopharmazie

The Institute of Radiopharmacy of the Forschungszentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (FZD) is involved in the scientific program “Cancer Research“ and is engaged in Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research. Chemical, biological and physical working groups work together to increase the knowledge in the scopes of “Molecular Imaging and Tumor Therapy”. Thus, the institute’s focus is directed to mainly experimental work for characterisation and therapy of tumors. This includes contributions for the understanding of the pathogenesis of cancerogonesis and inflammations. Our basic aim is the development of specific radioactive labelled substances (so-called radiotracers and radionuclide therapeuticals) and their application in Translational Tumor Research as well as for our research purposes.

The Rossendorf Center for Positron Emission Tomography (PET Center) was established by our institute together with the Medical Faculty/University Hospital to carry out as well as special medical research programs and patients’ investigation with PET. The institute is an important part and partner as well of OncoRay - Center for Radiation Research in Oncology.

The institute is also engaged in the education and training of the next generation of scientists and technicians. Beside its work in applied basic research the staff of the institute implements its comprehensive expert knowledge and its wealth of experience into the education at the Dresden University of Technology. Students can attend lectures in Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry, Bioinorganic Chemistry and Positron E mission Tomography. Trainees, graduants and Ph.D. students from German and foreign universities have the possibility to work at multidisciplinary subjects in modern and well equipped laboratories.

The current research program of the institute is focused to three topics: The four departments

and the

contribute to the successful work of the institute.
